FREE READ Little Treasures 107 Little TreasuresThis is such a cute idea for a book I enjoyed learning various endearments parents use for their children in different parts of the world I also appreciated that the author specified a particular language when addressing a country or region where multiple languages or dialects are spoken such as specifying Mandarin in China However I'm not sure the book was ultimately all that successful as a children's picture book There is no real story it's j

FREE READ Little Treasures 107 Little TreasuresI came across this book as I was cataloging for the hospital library I stopped my work and read the whole thing from beginning to end The artwork is charming without being precious and the cultural perspective allowed by the sometimes weird terms of endearments used around the world is fascinating But I wonder if a child would have the same fascination without the cultural context to attach to it And would a child be as interested in the phonetic pronunciation of a dozen different languages I'm betting adults will enjoy this than the intended audienceIt just so happens that our family adopted a new kitten just as I was reading this book The poor thing was almost named the Portuguese translation of energetic pea or some such I've already forgotten Mishka was a close

FREE READ Little Treasures 107 Little TreasuresThe author provides several terms of endearment for little ones in 14 different languages in countries where English is not the chief language including Finland Poland China plus providing the terms used in England the United States and Australia The book's message is clear All across the globe parents love their children and address them in fond ways The ink watercolor and gouache illustrations appear at the top and bottom of the pages leaving space in the middle for the text Back matter includes a note from the author describing how the terms of endearment were collected and a passage explaining that many of these terms of endearment are often used between lovers as well as between parents and children
