review Dont Worry Be Grumpy 103 Dont Worry Be GrumpySo ok yeah these are mostly clever fables A few are just plain jokes and a few are observations sans morals But mostly they're good advice for just about anyone esp busy Westerners who aren't necessarily interested in BuddhismThe title is a reference to just one anecdote and a clever attention getter; don't put too much weight into itI prefer the anecdote about Get hopey The advice is when we find ourselves fretting and worrying about things that could go wrong we should focus instead on the things that could go right Say your teen son is late getting home instead of being in a car accident or being drunk he could simply be having a really great time talking with his friends My example not AB'sAlso when reflecting on the bad things that have happened in the past stop yourself and remember all the good bits The tag for that is Are you a shit collector or an egg collectorE

review Dont Worry Be Grumpy 103 Dont Worry Be GrumpyI found myself slowing down my reading pace as I neared the end which is always the sign of a good book and yet there were parts I really disliked It’s a collection of short essay stories — some real most updated retellings of Buddhist tales — like Ajahn Brahm’s book “Who Ordered This Truckload of Dung” His teachings have always had outdated gender attitudes which I’ve generally put down to his age and isolation as a monk Yet he has one story about a nagging wife and another wher

review Dont Worry Be Grumpy 103 Dont Worry Be GrumpyThe Dharma talks by Ajahn Brahms are a cool mix of insight humor and wit He always tries to tell the message by using stories to make the listeners look at the moon not the finger1 The dog poop story suffering comes in many forms heartbreaks work issues death etc We got to take them with least resistance When we accept them take them home to our gardens after awhile they act as fertilizers We get to eat tasty plump apples It does mature and help us grown as individuals2 The 70% rule expect less Don't aim for perfection as you will expect and fall into the habit of fault finding Don't go for low percent as it will discourage you Keep a middle score so that you can appreciate yourselves and others too with their differences3 Person are than their labels terming people like criminals mad etc can make us fail to see their other side's For eg if a teacher sees kid as a underperformer he will never see the other side like the kid

review Dont Worry Be Grumpy 103 Dont Worry Be GrumpyI copied a few of the stories because I don't want to forget them I found several to be very loving and kind and others that reminded me of truths not always remembered and easy for remembering the lesson I also made several copies of the happiness certificate at the end It gives the bearer the right to be happy for no reason whatsoever for as long as they want to be happy It's frameable

review Dont Worry Be Grumpy 103 Dont Worry Be GrumpyGreat book for little parables and inspiring stories by the Australian Buddhist monk Ajahn Brahm He discusses and provides stories of how Buddist monks and nuns are experts on separating the mind from the difficulties that surround them Each story is two to three pages so it easy for a busy person or parent to pick up and put down during the day I used many of the stories as discussion starters with high school students a great way to get them to think and analyze life
