Download kindle Ó Drowning Tucson ↠ citybells Drowning TucsonI really wanted to like this book It is by a local author local being Arizona It sounded interesting being set in Tucson's toughest neighborhoods during the late 1980s It received praise from Leslie Marmon Silko And although I did not realize it when I started reading there are different reading seuences for the chapters to appeal to the purist uixotic skeptic zealot downtrodden or deconstructionist It's an interesting concept a bit like a choose your own adventure for adults I went the purist route though I do not think my opinion would have changed had I read it differently Morales' book is deep in over the top sex and violence Some of the characters come off as being charicatures Tucson seems to just be a convenient backdrop with somewhat cliche de

Download kindle Ó Drowning Tucson ↠ citybells Drowning TucsonMorales understands the Underworld that class of humanity that has never had a hope in this otherwise civilized world A bleak dark book which through the eyes of a different person in each chapter an incredibly destructive lifestyle is exposed If only this book was complete fiction but horribly every story in Drowning Tucson has a living version being created in fact today incredibly the book doesn't preach hyperventilate or exaggerate These characters are composites of real people who actually are out there in the slums and abandoned neighborhoods of Western society For some of us this is not an unknown culture For me this book demonstrates why community activism is important and why as much money as a society can spare should be spent on educational programs for preschoolers and youth activity centers as well as job training alternatives sid

Download kindle Ó Drowning Tucson ↠ citybells Drowning TucsonGritty truthful raw While the places are known to all Tucsonans Park Mall Reid Park Miracle Mile etc the stories of the disenfranchised protagonists are not told enough Morales' writing is deep fast drummed home by hardcore long sentences that slam the reader with the realities of growing up poor of being in a gang of abandonment sacrifice and day to day existence in our fair city Although their writing styles differ the grit here reminds me of Chuck Bowden's writings about South Tucson Miracle Mile and the border This should be reuired reading for anyone who moves to Tucson

Download kindle Ó Drowning Tucson ↠ citybells Drowning TucsonA lesser badly executed version of Down These Mean Streets with a crazy amount of über violent sex and assault scenes that seemed to be included purely for shock value I got 130 pages in and just couldn't do it any it was just of the same in all of the stories and it made me care very little if at all about any of the characters A shame because I was really looking forward to reading this

Download kindle Ó Drowning Tucson ↠ citybells Drowning TucsonOy great writing but this is probably one of the most depressing books I've ever read Gritty realistic and utterly engrossing; it is also sad and pitiful and sometimes just makes you want to throw the book at the wall out of frustration This is definitely a book club book If a group reads this they'll probably end up at blows over how they each read the book all I can say is woof
